Participating Agencies and Collaborators

Denver Department of Human Services will be responsible for benefit acquisition and information. Staff from the DDHS Homeless Outreach team will meet with guests to administer the following benefits to those who are eligible:

  • Food Assistance – Food Stamps and Food Vouchers for those who qualify
  • Aid to the Needy and Disabled Applications – This is a cash benefit that is available for individuals who qualify and have a disability while Social Security is being sought
  • Old Age Pension Applications – This is a cash benefit that is for individuals over 60 years of age who qualify for this benefit
  • General Assistance – Pharmacy vouchers, rental and eviction assistance, lodging vouchers and family reunification

Social Security Administration will also be responsible for benefit acquisition. Staff from the Social Security Administration along with non-profit organizations will be available to check on current applications, make new applications and give information and advocacy to individuals who qualify for this federal entitlement. These services are for applicants who have reached retirement age, and for individuals who have a significant
disability.

Denver Health, Porter Hospital, and Regis University will be responsible for providing medical services and personnel (Registered Nurses and Doctors) to administer the medical services. Guests will be able to talk to trained medical staff and be screened for available medical services, which includes wound care and basic medical care. Tests for TB and STDs, including HIV tests, will be administered. Clients will be referred to Denver Health to receive a follow-up reading of their TB test 48-72 hours after the test is performed and will be given a phone number to call to receive their results from the HIV and STD tests. Information on prenatal care will also be available.

Metro CareRing will be responsible for helping guests to obtain their birth certificates and Colorado Identification cards.

Colorado Indigent Care Program will be responsible for working with poor participants who may be uninsured. An outreach worker from Denver Health will be able to enroll guests in the CICP program if they qualify for this resource.

Colorado Legal Council will be responsible for providing referrals for legal services. There will be a group of 20 lawyers who will be able to check on legal status for guests. This could include checking on legal status for guests, checking on warrants, and giving legal consultation and referrals.

Denver Public Schools will be responsible for providing educational services. Adult basic education and GED referrals will be provided.

.The University of Denver will be responsible for providing staff from DU’s various Career Centers and Financial Aid Office, who will be available to answer questions that young people may have about applying for jobs and the college application process. Staff will also work with adult participants on resume building and offer support for completing job applications.

Local Employers will be responsible for providing job skills and conducting mock or formal interviews for job placement.

Denver Workforce, (part of the City & County of Denver), will be responsible for providing employment services. Guests will be able to meet with employment counselors, do job searches, develop new resumes and talk to employers about current openings. There will also be information regarding jobs for people who have had felony convictions in the past.

Denver Housing Authority will be responsible for providing housing referrals. Available housing units, information on deposits and rents will be available in this area.

Veteran’s Administration and the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program will be responsible for providing benefits and services for US Veterans. Officers will be able to help connect guests to resources, provide benefits information, employment information, DD Form 214, housing, medical and Regional veteran matters. Care kits and product vouchers will also be provided to veterans on this day.

A Children’s Area and Childcare will be provided. Activities and childcare will be provided to children of guests while participants are visiting Project Homeless Connect.

Other various non-profit organizations that provide services to the homeless will be available for consultation and information.
