Admission to the Honors Program is achieved in a number of ways. Many highly qualified students are invited to apply upon admission to the University. Still others apply on their own after discovering the program during the admission process or their first quarters at the University. To learn more, please read our Honors Program FAQ.
Students may apply after acceptance into the University. In order to maintain the high quality of the program, we must limit the number of students admitted each year. Following the admission calendar of the University, for Academic Year 2015-2016, the Priority application deadline is February 16th, and all applications must be received by April 5. Students applying after those dates may be considered if there are spaces available, and qualified students who apply after the program is full will be put on the waitlist. Qualified students who apply after the program is full will be put on the waitlist. If room becomes available, applications on the waitlist will be admitted between May 1 and June 1. Current DU students have the opportunity to apply according to the listed quarterly deadlines.
Incoming students who believe they would be a good fit for the program, transfer students, and current DU students are all welcome to apply. Students admitted to the program typically have high school GPAs above 3.8, ACT scores of 30 or higher and SATs of 1300 (verbal and math). The averages for the class that entered in Fall, 2014, were 3.96, 32, and 1366, respectively. Current DU students must have a letter of recommendation from a DU faculty member and a GPA of 3.5 or above. Students should wait to apply until after they have been accepted to DU. They will be informed if accepted within one month of submitting their complete application.
The University Honors Program offers a diverse liberal arts foundation and a sequence of courses that satisfies many university requirements. Because the Honors sequence includes lower division courses and the requirement that students enter their major distinction program, transfer students who have already met these requirements or have junior standing may find it impractical and sometimes impossible to complete the program. Please contact us if you would like to explore the possibilities presented by your situation.
