Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

Awards of up to $5,000 for US citizen undergraduates receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 4-year college or university.  Additional $3,000 award available for studying a critical need language.  Covers study abroad programs of at least 4 weeks to any country not under a Department of State travel warning.

Freeman-Asia: Awards for Study in Asia

Open to undergraduates for study in East and Southeast Asia.  Awards vary, from $3,000 for summer, $5,000 for semester, and $7,000 for academic year.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

For college students who intend to pursue careers as scientists, mathematicians and engineers.  Awards made to two groups of students, those who will be college juniors and those who will be college seniors.  Covers expenses for tuition, fees, books, room and board for up to two years of support.

To recognize leaders who will enter public service and provide them with funds for their senior year and up to three years of post-graduate education.  For college juniors who plan to pursue careers in government or public service.  Covers leadership training and financial support.

Grants for Seniors and Graduates

David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships

Funding from the National Security Education Program (NSEP) supports US undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to US interests: Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.  Up to $20,000 for undergraduate and $30,000 for graduate students.

Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes

Scholarships for US undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. students to participate in beginning, intermediate, and advanced summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers.

Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program

Supports international collaboration in biomedical engineering, for graduating seniors and graduate students, provides US citizens the opportunity to undertake research abroad.  Covers travel, living expenses, and tuition for fellows.

Central Europe Summer Research Institute (CESRI)

For masters or Ph.D. students in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science, or mathematics.  US citizens can spend eight weeks conducting lab research in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, or Slovakia.  Covers living expenses and fellowship.

Davies-Jackson Scholarships

For students who are among the first in their family to graduate college, covers two years scholarship and expenses to Cambridge University to study archaeology and anthropology, classics, economics, English, geography, history, history of art, languages, music, philosophy, and social and political sciences.

Fulbright Scholarships

Fulbright is the largest international exchange program offering opportunities for recent graduates and graduate students to attend universities, complete research projects, collaborate, or teach English.  Students applying through DU must go through DU faculty advisor.

British Marshall Scholarship

For seniors and some post-graduates, covers expenses for study in the United Kingdom for up to three years.  Students must be nominated by DU faculty advisor.

Rhodes Scholarship

For students under 25 years of age with outstanding academic records with commitment to leadership and service.  Covers expenses for two to three years of study at Oxford University.  Students must be nominated by DU faculty advisor

George J. Mitchell Scholarship

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships

For students interested in study and research abroad after graduation.  Students must have appropriate language skills.  Covers expenses for study and research abroad for one year.  Applicants work with local Rotary Club to apply.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships

Awarded to students who have already been admitted to study at the University of Cambridge through regular procedures.  Students who propose to study global problems related to health, equity, technology, and learning are encouraged to apply.  Covers expenses and tuition to study at Cambridge for 1-3 years.
