People to Help You in the Residence Halls
In the residence halls, you're surrounded by staff members who can help you with everything from installing software on your laptop to learning your way around campus.
Student staff
Resident Assistant (RA):
Your RA helps build community on your floor, implements programs and activities, and maintains a positive environment for residents. RAs plan social and educational programs throughout the year and can help you with maintenance requests, housing information, or problems that arise during the year. Resident Technology Assistant (RTA): Resident Technology Assistants work in the computer labs/technology centers in the halls and help residents with their personal computers. They also teach computer skills classes periodically in the residence hall computer labs. You can request help through the RTA Web site. If you're interested in applying for a position, you can find out how to do that at the RTA Web site also.
Desk Assistant (DA): Desk Assistants provide information, check out supplies, and answer questions when you need help. All of the halls will be interviewing for DA staff during the first week the residence halls open. If you're interested in working as a DA, inquire at your front desk.
Desk Manager (DM): Desk Managers coordinate the 24-hour services at the front desks of Halls, J-Mac, Nelson, and Towers. They are full-time students with experience as residence hall staff. Desk Managers can assist you with any particular questions that you have about how the front desk functions, or if you have a question about a package that should have arrived, but hasn't.
Professional staff
- Graduate Resident Director (GRD)/Resident Director (RD): These staff members work closely with the student staff and will also be providing assistance to individual students. We are excited to have professional staff members who are specifically dedicated to student success in each building.
