Theme Floors
Theme floors provide the opportunity for students to live with others students who share a similar philosophy. Theme Floors provide a comfort level to those who live there, knowing that their behavioral choices will be honored.
Substance-Free Lifestyle Floor
This substance-free floor offers an additional measure of support for students who choose not to drink, smoke or use other drugs (illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, or illegally obtained prescription medications).
Whether students choose this floor based on personal or family history, religious beliefs, or wanting a substance-free environment, they will find themselves in an environment with less peer pressure and a greater focus on having fun and enjoying college without the use of controlled substances.
The power of this program is that everyone on this floor voluntarily chooses to live a substance-free lifestyle. If an individual doesn't maintain his or her commitment to the substance-free community, they may be asked to move to a different floor.
Da Vinci Community
We are very excited to again offer the da Vinci Community as an option for the 2007-2008 academic year. Johnson Hall will house the da Vinci Community, a group of first-year students devoted to experiencing college life within a community of scholars. This is an opportunity to live with other students devoted to living their academic and cultural lives to the fullest.
Unlike the Honors community in Centennial Halls, the da Vinci Community isn't tied directly to an academic component. Instead, everyone in the community commits to sustaining a quieter, substance-free lifestyle in the hall and a standard of community ownership and self-governance. Programs and discussions will integrate the on-campus living experience with social, intellectual and cultural pursuits and honor the diverse intellectual, cultural and spiritual gifts of all students.
