Working Over the Summer

Applying for a Summer Staff Position

The Summer Desk Assistants are live-in student staff members in the Department of Housing and Residential Education. The Desk Assistant (DA) is a vital part of Housing and Residential Education, working in direct service to the students. The DA has many different roles including acting as a leader, enforcing policies, and serving as a resource, an educator, and a positive role model for both students and staff.

Over the summer, the DA's primary responsibilities include checking residents into and out of their housing assignment, package and mail handling, checking out various desk resources, serving in an on-call weekly rotation, and answering questions. 

4 (four) Desk Assistant Positions will be available during Summer 2017, with each position working 10-20 hours per week.

Compensation

  • $10/hour and on-campus apartment, with 6 hours per week being deducted from the DA's paycheck to cover housing.

Hiring Timeline for the 2017 Summer

  • March 29th: Application available.

  • April 17th: Application closes at noon.

  • April 24th- 28th: Interviews.

  • May 1-2nd: Written offers sent via e-mail. 

Required Availability: 

  • June 10-September 5, 2017. Applicants with major conflicts will not be given priority.

  • Mandatory training during late May or early June. Tentative training date is Sunday, May 21st.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who are available to work all summer as, well as those with former Housing & Residential Education experience.
