Institute for the Development of Gifted Education

Projects & Publications

The Institute for the Development of Gifted Education is committed to supporting, conducting and producing new research that will continue to move the fields of gifted education and general education forward to better meet the needs of our most able students.

Challenges

The field of gifted education is often neglected in the larger field of general education. Compelling national issues such as national standards, school reform efforts, and the charter school movement have all demanded much research and attention from experts in the field.

Additionally, federal funding designated for research and development in the field of gifted education has been limited to the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Student Education Program, which was cut in 2011.

How our research helps

Thanks to The Institute's strengthened connections to the Morgridge College of Education—and our visible presence there—we provide the necessary supports to conduct multiple investigations.
