Family and Friends
If your student is departing for a study abroad program, we invite you to read our Pre-Departure Guide for Friends and Family of a DU Study Abroad Student, which covers a wide variety of topics relating to your student’s study abroad experience.
We also encourage you to view our Online Parent Orientation. This is a 40-minute narrated presentation (divided into smaller segments); you will need speakers to hear the audio.
Additionally, we offer an optional session for parents each year in May. We choose this time period because most DU students study abroad during the fall quarter, making spring a busy time of preparation. Invitations to the Parent Info Session are emailed to each student’s stated emergency contact in early April. Should you not receive an invitation, please send an email to duabroad@du.edu with your contact information.
Emergency contacts will automatically receive both a copy of their student's acceptance email and an electronic Pre-Departure Guide for Friends and Family of a DU Study Abroad Student. Should you not receive this information, please ask your student to correct their “Emergency Contact Email” in MyWeb. You may also want to check your Junk email folder.
