The first weekend in the Czech Republic we went on a field trip a few hours away to a little place called South Bohemia. We stayed at a cabin with around 200 international students who were also attending the School of Economics and were given no guidance or ground rules. There were students from all over the world including Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, and more. We all knew nothing about each other and had no idea what to expect; however, we had one thing in common and that was making new friends. Having come from all different backgrounds and all over the world, there were a great variety of languages spoken. I learned to be patient and listen to the way others speak by either watching their lips or using a great deal of hand gestures! We stayed up all day and night playing games, singing, dancing, and creating new friendships. I met some of the kindest and most amazing people that I was able to connect with throughout my entire abroad experience.

Because of all my travels and cultural interactions, I decided not to rush into the real world quite yet and instead give back to the community. I'm going to volunteer in Africa this summer with the program HEAL Africa. After I graduate, I am also planning on teaching in Thailand through another program that DU offers with one of my best friends from study abroad. My abroad experience has taught me to never limit myself and to take advantage of everything in front of me.

If you are thinking about whether or not to study abroad I would say that there is no decision that needs to be made. It is an opportunity of a lifetime that you cannot pass up. In order to really gain perspective on one's life and living in America, the best thing to do is step outside of your comfort zone and experience an entirely unknown world. It may sound improbable right now, but you will discover so much about yourself and the world that surrounds you. You will realize that you are a stronger person than you had ever imagined and can handle anything that life brings your way. Take advantage and embrace this opportunity because it will only enhance your wonderful journey of life!
