Bond University

Opened in May 1989, Bond University is a small private Australian university located on the Queensland's famous Gold Coast. With an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, Bond University boasts an international population of 1,300 students. The program allows DU students who can only be away from DU for the spring quarter an opportunity to participate in a DU study abroad program in Australia and in the Cherrington Global Scholars program, if they are eligible for Cherrington benefits.

Location
Bond University is set on a 66-hectare campus at Robina on Queensland's Gold Coast. Created in the tradition of leading private universities, a series of grand sandstone faculty buildings line a landscaped promenade leading down to the tranquil man-made lake. A popular tourist destination, Gold Coast's population of 400,000 residents swells during Australian holidays, including school breaks. Located in the state of Queensland, Gold Coast is just over an hour's train ride to the state's capital city, Brisbane.

Activities
Small class sizes make it easy to meet your classmates at Bond University. The campus has several dining and lounging areas as well as an award-winning sport centre for its students. The university's active sporting and recreation clubs provide you with a variety of activities and events to join in on. In the Gold Coast area are beaches, restaurants, nightclubs and even a few amusement parks. Easy to use public transportation gives you travel access to the surrounding towns and cities, including Brisbane.
Accommodations
Bond University offers on-campus accommodation, which ranges from apartment-style living to single rooms with or without an ensuite bathroom and/or cooking facilities. With your on-campus accommodation, you will have a meal plan. Recreation officers plan social and sporting events for their residents. In the unlikely event that on-campus accommodation is not available to you, you will live in an off-campus apartment, as arranged by the University of Denver. Off-campus apartments do not include a meal plan.
Eligibility
You must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at the University of Denver with a minimum GPA of 2.5. To participate in this program as a Cherrington Global Scholar, you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Host universities/programs reserve the right to admit students. This is a limited-enrollment program; only 15 DU students may attend Bond University per term.

Griffith University

Founded in 1975, Griffith University is considered one of Australia’s progressive universities. Having earned itself a reputation as a leader in areas as diverse as environmental science, international business, Asian studies, and internet marketing, Griffith boasts some of the most advanced teaching and research facilities in the country. Nearly 30,000 students, including over 3500 international students, study on Griffith’s five campuses.

Location
Griffith's five campuses are spread along the Brisbane to Gold Coast corridor. The Queensland College of Art and Queensland Conservatorium are located in Brisbane's cultural precinct on the South Bank. The Nathan campus, located in a nature reserve, and the Mt. As an enrolled student you become a member of the Student Guild at the Gold Coast campus or Student Life on the other Griffith campuses and may join any of the activities offered by these two groups. Off campus, Queensland's subtropical climate allows you to pursue a range of outdoor activities year round.
Accommodations
Depending on which of the Griffith campuses you choose, you will live in either an on- or off-campus flat. The off-campus flats, which are purpose-built for university students, are within a short bus ride from campus.

As with any major international city, it offers first-rate shopping, dining, theater, and spectator sports. Considered the most European of the Australian cities, it also the most ethnically diverse.

Because Monash University has such a wide breadth of academic offerings, you may be able to meet nearly any DU major, minor, elective, or university requirements while studying here. Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is one of Australia's largest universities and prides itself on being modern, progressive, and technologically advanced. One of Australia's best teaching universities, QUT classes take a "real world" approach by balancing theory and practical experience.

Location
With a population exceeding 1.6 million people, Brisbane is Australia's fastest-growing capital and offers a safe, friendly, and multicultural environment. One of QUT's three campuses in Brisbane, the Garden Points campus, is the only university campus located in the heart of Brisbane's central business district. The other two campuses, Kelvin Grove and Carseldine, are easily accessible by public transportation or the university's free shuttle service.

Established in 1874, the University of Adelaide is the third oldest university in Australia. Internationally known for its strengths in the biological sciences, the physical sciences, information technology and telecommunications, environmental sciences, and social sciences, it is also one of the most prestigious universities in Australia. Approximately 16,000 students, including 2,000 international students, currently study at the University of Adelaide.

Location
Located in the state of South Australia, Adelaide is often referred to as Australia’s cultural capital for its strong support of the arts. It’s also rumored to have more restaurants than residents. The University of Adelaide’s main campus, North Terrace, is situated on the River Torrens and surrounded by parklands. This downtown location also provides easy, walking access to the city’s shopping, museums, and nightlife.

The 85-acre main campus, Kensington, is 5 miles southeast from Sydney's central business district. It is 20 minutes by bus from the main central railway station and 30 minutes from the harbor and ferry terminals. The College of Fine Arts (COFA) is located in Paddington, an inner suburb in the heart of Sydney's gallery district. It is about 7 minutes by bus from the Kensington campus.

College Square offers apartment-style living within a 10-15 minute walk or 5 minute tram ride of campus and social events for its residents. Location
Tasmania is a safe, beautiful and clean place to live, with plenty of things to see and do. In the suburb of Sandy Bay, the Hobart campus is set on 250 acres of land, with most of its upper campus in natural bushland. Two and a half hours away, the Launceston campus is on 125 acres at Newnham overlooking the Tamar River. Both campuses have easy access to the extraordinary natural beauty of Tasmania as well as the nearby city life.

Location
The University of Western Australia is situated in Perth between the Swan River and the Indian Ocean. Perth is a sophisticated city that has easy access to superb beaches, nature reserves, and laidback seaside towns. The absence of heavy industry means a virtually pollution-free environment. Perth also boasts more hours of sunshine per year than any other capital city in Australia. In 2002 Travel and Leisure magazine voted the citizens of Perth "the friendliest people in the world."

Cherrington Scholars Eligible

  • The sixth-largest country in the world, Australia is home to the planet’s longest continuous fence. Built to protect livestock from dingoes, the fence stretches for a whopping 6,200 miles
  • Construction on the world-famous Sydney Opera House began in 1959, but thanks to scandals, bad weather and assorted mishaps, the building wasn’t completed until 1973. Total cost: $102 million, $95 million more than originally estimated
  • Sunbathers and surfers love Australia for its 7,000 beaches—more than any other nation in the world. It’s no wonder that Australia once led the world in skin cancer cases.
  • In the late 18th century, more than 600 Aboriginal groups speaking roughly 200 different languages or dialects called Australia home. Nearly 50 of these groups have become extinct.
  • Australian writer Patrick White, author of The Eye of the Storm, won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1973. Intensely private, White (1912–1990) left instructions that news of his death be made public only after his funeral.
  • The Tasmanian devil—named for its coloring, spine-chilling screech and reputed bad temper—has been around for tens of thousands of years. Today the marsupial is no longer found on mainland Australia but only on its namesake island.
