Going abroad was the most incredible time of my life. I would not be the person I am today without challenging myself in so many ways. I joined both the volleyball team and the crew team. I never thought I would ever have the chance to row a boat. I learned to travel all by myself, see all kinds of wildlife, met tons of friends, learned so many things about the culture such as the Aboriginals and got to see the Australian view on America.
I encourage everyone to go abroad, no matter where you go in the world. You will have a new appreciation for the culture and the United States. Challenging yourself both mentally and academically is the greatest reward. The most rewarding part is what you take back from the whole experience. The country you study abroad in will always be a part of who you are. I highly encourage going abroad, you will never regret it!
I have learned things that apply to both for my personal and academic life in so many ways. For example, going abroad allows you to have a completely new outlook on life when you get back to DU. I know that in some of my classes, I can compare and contribute my abroad experiences to class. Going abroad has also allowed me to talk about different issues concerning politics, business, social and history pertaining to Australia. I took classes in Australia that I would never have been able to take in an American institution. After this experience it has also helped me realize that I want to continue to travel, and, one day move back to Australia and work. So many professors, faculty and people of the community support going abroad and DU allows for such amazing opportunities. Take advantage of all of these great opportunities!
