Location: Vienna, Austria
Time Abroad: Fall 2006
Major: Music (Vocal Performance)
I chose to study in Vienna, Austria because of its unique musical culture. Being a vocal music major, I wanted to go to a place where art music was developed and nurtured.
By being immersed in a culture which still values the works of great composers, I was able to truly understand music on a deeply intimate and fundamental level. The outstanding professors whose classes I was privileged to take part in instilled in me a connection to music that I never had before. I am able to love, appreciate, and understand music on such a powerful level. Studying abroad gave me this gift, and I will cherish it the rest of my life. The rich academic and cultural experience I had while abroad is one that changed my life forever. I now know that my college experience would have been incomplete if I hadn't studied abroad. I learned so much about myself: who I am, what I value, and where I'm needed to make my contribution to the world. I believe this was possible only because those four glorious months allowed me opportunities to see different life perspectives, and guided me towards finding my own.
