English Conditional Admission
ECA is the English Conditional Admission option that the University of Denver has for both the undergraduate and graduate level program. All undergraduate programs accept ECA, but not all graduate program have the ECA option. ECA students meet all admission requirements except their English proficiency.
You can visit http://admission.du.edu/admissions/grad.asp to learn if your graduate program accepted ECA.
Students admitted under ECA will be tested and placed into the appropriate level - level 1 (Beginning) through Level 5 (College Preparation) for undergraduates or through the Graduate Preparation Program for graduate students.
Please contact the ELC at elc@du.edu or the Office of International Admission at intladm@du.edu for more information.
For more ECA application information, please visit our applications page.
Undergraduates
English Conditional Admission (ECA) is available to all undergraduate applicants who have not yet received the appropriate TOEFL/IELTS score. Undergraduate applicants who are academically admissible to the University of Denver, but have not met English proficiency requirements will be considered for English Conditional Admission (ECA). Any student who successfully completes English language training through Level Five at the University of Denver's English Language Center prior to enrolling in a degree program will not be required to present a TOEFL/ IELTS score. Completion of an intensive English program other than the University of Denver's English Language Center does not satisfy this requirement.
Graduates
To insure that graduate international students will be well prepared for advanced study at the University of Denver, international students may be conditionally admitted to certain degree programs pending proof of English proficiency. This option is available to applicants only in certain departments who are academically admissible and who haves sufficient proof of financial support. In order to begin a degree program, students must either present the minimum TOEFL/IELTS score or complete the University's English Language Center's full-time intensive language courses, which may take between 10 weeks and 18 months, depending on placement test results and the students' individual progress. Academic courses may not be taken while students are enrolled at the English Language Center. Determine which programs will accept students under this option.
