English Conditional Admission
English Conditional Admission (ECA) is an option for all undergraduate and some graduate student applicants to the University of Denver (DU). ECA students must meet all admission requirements except their English proficiency.
Undergraduate ECA Students
ECA is available to all undergraduate applicants who have not yet received the required TOEFL/IELTS score. Undergraduate applicants who are academically admissible to DU but have not met English proficiency requirements will be considered for ECA. ECA students begin their studies at the ELC. They are tested and placed into the appropriate level, Basic-Level 5. When they complete Level 5, they may enroll in a degree program without presenting a TOEFL/IELTS score. Completion of an intensive English program other than the DU English Language Center does not meet this requirement.
Graduate ECA Students
ECA is also available to graduate applicants to some graduate departments. Applicants must meet all department admission criteria except the English proficiency requirement. Graduate students who are English Conditionally Admitted begin their studies at the ELC. They are tested and placed into the appropriate level. When these students have completed the final level at the ELC, they may enter their graduate program without a TOEFL/IELTS score. Academic courses may not be taken while students are enrolled at the ELC.
