Meet the Faculty and Staff
- Madelaine DeVan
- Assistant Director, Operations, DSO
- BA in Sociology, John Carroll University, University Heights, OH
- M.Ed in Secondary Education, Regis University, Denver, CO
I am a native of Denver and have always had an interest in cultures and education. I attended John Carroll University in Ohio where I received a B.A. in Sociology, with an international focus. My first major work experience with other cultures was my internship with Lutheran International Refugee Resettlement program in Denver. I assisted families from all over the world and learned about the conflicts in their home countries and their personal struggles.
While an undergrad, I studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland and traveled throughout Europe. I earned a M.Ed. from Regis University, where I developed a handbook for teachers on Hmong and Vietnamese cultures for secondary teachers to better understand the identity challenges of Southeast Asian refugee adolescents in the U.S. I have volunteered with Asian Pacific Development Center, working with adolescents from many Asian cultures.
Most of my work experience has been in the non-profit sector such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, working under the Federal McKinney Grant with homeless youth in Adams County School District 50, and at CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates where I trained and supervised adult volunteers on child abuse and neglect cases.
I am the Assistant Director of Operations at the ELC. I love working here with all of the international students, and the amazing faculty and staff. I have enjoyed becoming part of the DU community. In my free time I enjoy traveling, the outdoors, reading, photography and spending time with my husband, Zane, and our two dogs.
