Hello everyone! I was raised in Northern Idaho – just a few hours from Canada. My life in Idaho was very similar to that of a Coloradan – it was spent outdoors! I grew up hiking in the mountains and swimming in the rivers. While I love teaching English, I have been intensely drawn to the relationship language has to culture, and how language can shift depending on where it’s spoken. That interest is what eventually brought me to Utah State University, where I studied language teaching and culture alongside international graduate students from many countries. After graduating, I moved to the Dominican Republic and taught in the English Immersion Program at La Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. Choosing to live abroad was the best decision of my life. I was teaching English during the day, and learning Spanish every other moment of my time there. Not only does living in a new place allow you to learn about a new culture, but you also learn about your own culture. If you choose to study in Denver, you will find that the opportunities for learning are endless here. Whether you’re at a museum downtown, or a class trip in the mountains, there are so many unique activities that you can experience. Here at the ELC, students and teachers are surrounded by intelligent, interesting, and inspiring people from all over the world. It’s amazing what you’ll accomplish with us! I am so happy to be a part of this program, and I look forward to meeting you!
