I started teaching ESL about ten years ago when I first went to live in Japan as a participant in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. There I found how fun it was to work with people learning a new language and help them reach their goals. After doing that, I decided I wanted to continue in that field, so I got my master's degree in linguistics and began teaching at George Mason University's intensive English program. Next, I moved again, returning to Japan to teach at a university in Osaka. Born and raised in Hawaii, I've always been surrounded by people from diverse backgrounds, which is one of the reasons I love teaching ESL: getting to meet and know so many people from different countries and cultures. It's a great way to share my own knowledge, experience, and culture while learning so much from all my students.
