Graduate Internationalization Grants
The Office of Internationalization invites proposals for grants to be carried out within the June 2009 - June 2010 cycle. The goal of these grants is to provide graduate students with funding to engage in projects abroad that will benefit them by:
- Developing international components in research, courses (if teaching) or other projects.
- Forging research connections with scholars and/or professionals from other countries.
The Office of Internationalization will be awarding grants of $1000 each. Please read the following guidelines and submission requirements.
Example of a successful project: Grant proposals should be relevant to the student's career development and could be a request for monetary support for international travel or research, attendance and presentation at international conferences, and/or tuition for study abroad and language training opportunities.
Requirements and Guidelines
- Projects should be organized by the student with the support of a faculty member.
- If using a Per Diem in your budget outline, rates from the IRS should be used in calculating the budget.
- "Other" and "Miscellaneous" expenses should constitute no more than 10 percent of the total budget for the proposal.
Process
The deadline to submit proposals to the Office of Internationalization is June 1, 2009 for use on or after July 1, 2009. Applicants should submit proposals to supporting faculty members for a letter of support and graduate advisor approval before this date. The graduate advisors are requested to review their departments' proposals and send the supporting faculty's letter of support and the applicant's proposal directly to Carol Fairweather, Study Abroad Director, International House, 2200 South Josephine by Friday, June 1, 2009. Awards will be decided by a faculty/staff committee composed of members from the Internationalization Advisory Board. You will be notified of the status of your proposal in mid June.

Report
A summary report on the project is due within two months after use of the funds. The report must address how you will share results with the DU community, or how your project enhanced the DU community and your individual experience with internationalization. These reports will help direct our efforts at creating larger departmental and interdisciplinary opportunities on campus. The reports should include a summary of activities as well as goals both achieved and unmet. You may be asked to share your experience with the International Advisory Board. This report should be sent by e-mail to Carol Fairweather in the Office of Internationalization (cfairwea@du.edu).
