Rene Wright, Program Director is an alumnus of the University of Denver law school. Over the course
of her career she has practiced law in various capacities; prosecution,
criminal defense, state/federal constitutional and civil rights
litigation, student affairs in higher education and immigration
law. Recently, she served as the in-country director for the
International Justice Mission, where she established an international
human rights field office in Nairobi, Kenya.
As program director, Rene will be coordinating the academic aspect of Project Bosnia-Herzegovina, including the pre-departure course and retreat, as well as guest lectures and reflection sessions in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Rene will be based in Sarajevo about six weeks of the summer, offering support to both the Sarajevo interns (locally) and the Vareš participants (as needed). She will assist all Project participants in connecting their in-country service to their academic work.

Jolene R. Lockwood, Summer School Coordinator, is a Literacy
Specialist and Technology Teacher at Windsor Charter Academy in
Windsor, Colorado. She earned her Master's degree in International
and Intercultural Communications from the University of Denver with
an emphasis on Human Rights. Jolene received her undergraduate degree
in Elementary Education from Indiana University. She participated
in Project Bosnia-Herzegovina as a Vareš teaching intern in 2002 and served
as the Vareš Supervisor since 2004.
Jo will be based in Vareš, but will
also offer support to the Sarajevo interns and to the program as
a whole. Jo will be assisting the Vareš teaching interns with
pre-departure and in-country preparations and implementation of
lesson plans and curriculum design. She will also provide classroom
support and guidance for the DU students in Vareš throughout
the summer.

Melissa Schaap, International Service
Learning Coordinator, is responsible for the administrative aspect
of Project Bosnia-Herzegovina and other DU international service learning programs.
Melissa is available to answer any questions you may have regarding
Project Bosnia-Herzegovina, including: the application process, finances, scholarships,
program concerns, travel concerns, academic concerns, etc.
