NEWS AND IMMIGRATION UPDATES
Attention Special Registrants Who Are Traveling
If you were subject to Special Registration (NSEERS) upon entering the U.S., you will need to report to an approved U.S. Port-of-Departure (inside designated airports) if you are traveling out of the U.S. Report at the last Port-of-Departure from the U.S. (for example, if traveling from Denver – New York – London, report in New York). Arrive at a designated airport 3-4 hours early for your Special Registration exit interview. If you report to the airline first for your boarding card and luggage check-in, ask the airline service attendant NOT to take your I-94 since you will need it for your Special Registration exit interview. It is possible that you will be subject once again to Special Registration upon your return to the U.S.
If you were born in, are a resident or dual citizen of one of the Special Registration countries printed in the Federal Register and you are unsure if you are subject to Special Registration, please contact International Student and Scholar Services and/or your attorney immediately for further information and instructions. For more details and helpful links, visit http://www.du.edu/intl/isss/travel.html.
ISSS Annual International Graduation Reception: Thursday, June 5th, 4:30-6 p.m
Graduating international students and their families and friends are invited to the office’s International Graduation Reception. For more information, please read the Upcoming Activities and Events section below.
Spring Travel Clinics
A travel clinic will be held at the International House on June 2, 2008 from 1pm to 3pm for international students with F-1 or J-1 student status who want to travel internationally over summer break. You can get a travel signature immediately and get all of your visa documents checked by an ISSS advisor. Students, please make sure you are registered as a full-time student for Fall Quarter 2008 in order to immediately receive I-20/DS-2019 travel signatures.
Limited Walk-in Hours May 28 & May 30
ISSS Advisors will be attending an international student and scholars professional conference. Due to this conference, walk-in hours will be limited on May 28 & May 30. Please note that walk-in hours on these two days will be from 10am to 12pm.
OPT Reminder
Those wishing to do post-completion OPT should submit their documents as soon as possible. The processing times for OPT applications is now 2 ½ to 3 months. Documents and procedures for applying for OPT can be found on the ISSS website: http://www.du.edu/intl/isss/opt.htm
Reminder: Important SEVIS Requirement: Temporary Address Update
Please remember, SEVIS regulations require that you maintain an active foreign address as your HOME address and a U.S. domestic residence as your MAILING address in the DU system.
*For students who will be changing their address for the summer months ONLY, we request that you create a TEMPORARY ADDRESS rather than changing your MAILING or HOME address.
*For those of you who will be leaving the country for the summer and plan on returning to a new residence in the fall, we ask that you DO NOT create a future MAILING address; rather, we ask that you update the new address in the University system once you have moved to the new location.
**Remember, if you make a permanent move you are responsible for informing us of the change within ten days of the move.
All changes and updates can be made using "MyWeb". For more information and directions, please see our website at: http://www.du.edu/intl/isss/address.htm
Summer Walk-In Hours for ISSS Advising: June 11th to August 20th
From June 2nd to August 18th, the ISSS advising staff will be on a summer walk-in schedule of 10am to noon and 1pm to 3pm every weekday.
Special Registrants
All registered persons must notify a CIS officer when they leave the country at the port of exit of the United States. When leaving the U.S., please allow extra time at the airport for the exit interview.
