Optional Practical Training (OPT)

I. Introduction

To apply for Optional Practical Training please download and fill out the following forms. Please note that the forms can be completed on-line using Adobe Acrobat Reader. To download these forms you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. Click on the Adobe Icon below to download the latest version.

To ensure that your authorization is prepared for you in a timely fashion please ensure that you have all forms to International Students and Scholars Services (ISSS) at least 14 business days before your intended application date. Please also remember we must have all forms properly completed and turned in before we can process your request.

Finally, please keep in mind that ISSS recommends OPT, but actual OPT approval is given by the immigration service. Once an application leaves our office we have no further control over it and no magic formula for speeding it up or tracking its progress. It is critically important that you apply as early as possible so that if there are delays in immigration service processing, you are not inconvenienced. Immigration service processing times are estimates, and are not guaranteed; times are subject to change by the immigration service without notice.

II. Application Process 

1. Download OPT Packet: The first step in the application is to download the forms and information from this page. Read them very carefully.
2. Ask Questions: If you have any questions about the application or application process, please contact an ISSS advisor.
3. Submit Materials: Once you have completed the application you can submit your application to the front desk of I-House.
