Chancellor Ritchie --

Chancellor Ritchie

As Chancellor Dan Ritchie prepares to switch hats from that of the Chancellor to that of the Chair of the Board of Trustees, I want to pay tribute to him as the master architect of internationalization at the University of Denver.

It was his initiative to assess the nature and scope of interna-tional activities at the University and to establish this Office. It was he who took the most bold and ambitious undertaking of establishing the Cherrington Global Scholars Program. When most universities are struggling to maintain their basic international projects, he went to the Trustees with this forward-looking concept and obtained their blessing, at a great cost to the University but no additional expense to the students.

I consider this legacy to be as profound as any left by a university chancellor. My colleagues and I at the Office of Internationalization salute and thank Chancellor Ritchie and the Board of Trustees for their vision and their bold action, which have undoubtedly made this University an unequalled leader in the area of international education.
