One of the most successful events last quarter was The Office of Internationalization's Annual Fall Reception held on October 8th. The 270 guests had the opportunity to interact with diplomats from 13 countries, DU administrators, faculty and staff, community members, and students. Food from ethnic restaurants around Denver provided participants with delicious tastes from around the world!
Chancellor Dan Ritchie presented international service awards to: Darcie Fontaine (study abroad), Bassem Hassan (international student), Joseph Campe (international service learning ) and community members Kent Scroggs and Gene Congdon (community service). This was the first event at the I-House where we welcomed President Holtzman.
Joyce Jappelle, chair of the International Friendship Program, has helped to match more than forty international students with community members to develop cross-cultural friendships through enjoyable social activities. Erin Yoshimura, chair of the Professional Mentor Program, is linking 25 international students with community professionals for career support, resume building and cross-cultural awareness trainings in the business world .

As part of the Culture Corps Program, the International House was honored to have Peruvian Consul General Marita Landveri and Vice Consul General Ramiro Silva host an authentic Peruvian lunch. Jamie Polliard, Chair of the Culture Corps Program, will extend this opportunity to other Colorado Consular Corp Members and invite international students to speak in Denver classrooms about their cultures and countries.
EKTA, the India Friendship Group, recently held a professional networking night. Community leader Sudhir Verma brought seven successful professional and business leaders from the Denver Indian community to participate in a panel discussion about their business and career experiences in the United States. The Friendship Group program chair, Michael O’Keefe, is excited about the upcoming Chinese, Japanese and Korean groups forming in the next few months.
Our International Spouses Club reaches out to all spouses of international students and scholars. Program chair, Nancy Simonds McGrath, welcomes spouses into the Denver community through volunteer opportunities, English language lessons, and invitations to events sponsored at the International House.
The Fabulously French Evening attracted 50 students and community members, who enjoyed delightful French music by accordion player Ron Tomocik and accompanying violinist. Desserts were provided by Pascal and Barbara Trompeau, of Trompeau Bakery, who also shared insights about their business.
A most sincere thank you to Global Ambassador program chairs, community volunteers, the staff at the Office of Internationalization, students, administrators and all those who have helped make Global Ambassadors at DU programs and events innovative, collaborative, exciting and meaningful to all.
