The University of Denver is an independent institution offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Founded in 1864 by John Evans, who was appointed by Abraham Lincoln as the second governor of the Colorado Territory, it is the oldest independent university in Colorado and one of four research universities in the state. The 125-acre campus is located in a residential neighborhood eight miles southeast of downtown Denver.
