Al White
Member, Colorado House of Representatives
Representative Al White is entering his eighth year representing northwest Colorado. He was recently re-elected to his fourth and final term as State Representative for House District 57.
White is a businessman who began his time in Colorado 34 years ago in Winter Park. He and his wife Jean, who now reside in Hayden, have been happily married for 28 years and have two children: son Devin, 26, and daughter Jenna, 22.
After volunteering to serve in the military, White was honorably discharged from the Army. He relocated to Colorado where he attended the University of Colorado. White then moved to the mountains of Winter Park and began his career as a small-time entrepreneur in the fledgling ski business. Through hard work and the community's support, White and his wife Jean were able to sustain their businesses for 25 years as owners and operators of several full-service ski shops, a bike shop and a mountain lodge.
As an active member of the business community, White has served on several bank boards, was the chairman of the Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District, secretary of the Grand County Water and Sanitation board, and vice chair of the Winter Park Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce. These experiences created an aspiration in White to voice his concerns on a larger scale, which propelled him to Colorado's legislature.
During his terms in office, Al has had the honor of serving as Assistant Majority Leader, vice chair of the Business Affairs and Labor Committee and member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and the Education Committee. He also serves on the Water Resources Review Committee and the Legislative Audit committee. He has been the House appointee to the Colorado Tourism Office board for the past six years.
White has most recently been appointed to the Joint Budget Committee, which comprises only three members from the House and three members from the Senate. As a member of this committee, he will also serve on the House Appropriations Committee.
In September 2007, White announced his candidacy for Colorado State Senate District 8.
