Master of Arts program

The Josef Korbel School of International Studies offers six professional MA degrees in specific areas of study and a Master's in Development Practice. These programs typically take two academic years of full-time study to complete. Part-time study is also available and you'll have up to five years to complete an MA degree. You'll acquire broad knowledge through an interdisciplinary curriculum and dive into concentrated courses in a specific field of study. Our graduates go on to become successful leaders in the private, public and nonprofit sectors.

Unique, flexible, interdisciplinary programs at the Josef Korbel School provide the knowledge and skills you need to understand the challenges of our globalizing world. Your core coursework will combine political science, international law, economics, history, psychology, anthropology, public policy studies and management skills. Across the curriculum and in each field of study, you'll discover the impact of policy choices on human welfare. An emphasis on theory and practice will help you become the kind of innovative problem solver sought by government, business and non-governmental organizations worldwide. Flexibility

In consultation with a faculty advisor, you can customize your coursework to achieve your own academic and career goals. Many of our signature programs are interdisciplinary partnerships, both across the Josef Korbel School's functional areas and across the schools and programs within the University of Denver. We partner with two of the nation's most highly rated specialty schools-Daniels College of Business and Sturm College of Law - plus- the formidable DU School of CommunicationsIliff School of Theology, and Graduate School of Social Work. Joint degree programscertificates, and 150 study abroad programs allow you to design an educational path to fit your career objectives.

Peace Corps Master of Arts programs

In cooperation with the U.S. Peace Corps, the Peace Corps Master's International Program allows students accepted into the Peace Corps to pursue an MA in International Administration; International Development; or Global Finance, Trade, and Economic Integration prior to field service. Work completed during your field service applies toward the final 18 hours of degree requirements. The Peace Corps Fellows Program for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers provides financial assistance for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) pursuing a 90-credit-hour MA degree at the Josef Korbel School.

Mid-career program

The Master of Arts in Homeland Security is designed for applicants with at least seven years of professionally related work experience who wish to study contemporary policy issues and global problems.

Dual and joint degrees

Dual degree programs integrate two graduate-level degrees from two schools--an MA degree from the Josef Korbel School and an MA in business, law or social work--in a reduced amount of time. Applicants must apply and gain acceptance to both schools for dual degree status. The following dual degree programs are offered through the Josef Korbel School:

Joint degree programs involve a single degree that incorporates curricula from two schools. The Josef Korbel School participates in a joint degree program with the School of Communications. Students enrolled in this program receive a Master of Arts in International and Intercultural Communication from the School of Communications and take 20 of their credits at the Josef Korbel School. Those who have completed a master's degree in international affairs or a related field may apply to our Doctor of Philosophy program.

BA program

The BA Program in International Studies offers undergraduate students critical knowledge and skills for succeeding in a world that, for better or for worse, has gone global.  Whether your interests lie in business, law, environmental studies, social work, communications, or information technology, every student will benefit from a highly flexible and customizable program, grounded in theoretical, normative and practical competencies. Relevant concentration areas, ample study abroad opportunities, for-credit internships, and an exceptional dual degree BA/MA program, make the BA Program in International Studies unique among its peers.
