Peace Corps Fellows Program for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers

Peace Corps LogoThe Peace Corps Fellows Program for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers provides financial assistance for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) pursuing a 90-credit-hour Master of Arts degree at the Josef Korbel School.

Upon acceptance into the Peace Corps Fellows Program, those RPCVs who have completed their 27 months of Peace Corps service will receive an 18-credit-hour reduction (equivalent to approximately $30,000 for the 2009-10 academic year, if program completed in four quarters) in any of the six 90-credit-hour MA programs. Fellows are also waived from the language proficiency requirement and from the internship requirement.

The remaining 72 credit hours can be completed within four or five quarters of full-time study. Part-time study is also available.

Field Practicum Requirement

In ongoing support of the Peace Corps third goal, "to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans," all Peace Corps Fellows are required to complete 150 hours of field practicum in the local Denver community which helps meet the needs of underserved U.S. communities.

Peace CorpsA listing of potential field practicum sites can be found below, however, fellows are also welcome to research additional sites that may be more applicable to their career aspirations. The Office of Career and Professional Development  is available to assist in providing tools and resources for you to identify and select a site for the practicum upon matriculation. There is a minimum requirement of 150 hours and fellows can complete these hours at their own pace, whether it be 150 hours over the summer, or three to four hours a week for four quarters, etc. Once you secure a practicum site, you must submit the Peace Corps Field Practicum Agreement Form to the associate director for approval. The practicum, along with a supervisor's evaluation and the option of submitting a three to five page final report, submission of a PowerPoint presentation or short video on CD describing the work experience, must be completed at the end of the practicum and submitted to the associate director.

Note: Students pursuing dual and joint degree programs, Masters in Development Practice or mid-career degrees (MA in Homeland Security) are not eligible for the Fellows Program and do not receive the 18-credit-hour reduction, language proficiency waiver or internship requirement waiver.
