Your education is the most important investment you'll ever make. Our office offers a depth of experience and knowledge to help you leverage this investment and develop the career tools you need to succeed.

Our office provides a variety of career and professional development opportunities for your benefit. We encourage students to complete internships while at the Josef Korbel School, and provide funding and resources for locating, securing and completing your internship(s).  

What we do

We partner with you to help you achieve your academic, personal and professional goals through the following services:

Career coaching
Our staff can work with you on writing application materials and developing an internship and/or job search strategy. Whether you know exactly where you want to work or need help identifying employers that match your interests and skills, we are available to meet with you and coach you through these steps.

Career development course
We offer this non-credit course exclusively to Josef Korbel graduates to provide a comprehensive framework to help you integrate your academic program and career development for success.

Information sessions
A variety of organizational representatives visit campus throughout the year to host sessions on internship and job opportunities, as well as to provide career advice on their fields to students. Past sessions have included John Snow, Inc.; the FBI; the U.S. Department of State; Catholic Relief Services; and Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontiéres), among others.

Professionals in residence
Alumni and friends of the Josef Korbel School visit campus throughout the year to discuss their own careers and current positions with students and to answer questions related to their field. Past participants have hailed from a variety of organizations such as Inter-American Development Bank, USAID, Population Services International, Catholic Relief Services, International Rescue Committee, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of State, and the CIA.

Internships and jobs database
Korbelcareers is our online career development resource exclusively for Josef Korbel graduate students and alumni. On average it hosts 300 current job and internship vacancy announcements, an events calendar, and specific resources for careers in international affairs such as an extensive document library.

On-campus career events
Every year our office provides a variety of career development and networking opportunities. These special events include the Global Security Career Fair, Colorado-based International NGO Networking Forum, and the Student/Alumni Networking Reception, among others.

Career exploration and networking off-campus
Our Career Connections Programs in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston offer you the opportunity to meet and network with high-level decision makers and human resource professional in the government, large non-profits, and various companies. Some of the employers we have visited include the William J. Clinton Foundation, Council on Foreign Relations, International Rescue Commission, UNICEF, Freedom House, Partners in Health, Oxfam America, Government Accountability Office, Pentagon, Partnership for Public Service, CIA, The Atlantic Council, Chemonics, DevEx, and the World Bank, among others.

We also offer services for alumni and employers.

Korbel stood out from other schools in that it allowed students the opportunity to personalize their education. At Korbel, two students in the same program may have very distinct experiences based on the concentrations they choose, the internships they complete, and the focus of their research.
