CENEX 2012

Crisis Engagement & Negotiation Exercise

CENEX 2013

DU's Crisis Engagement and Negotiation Exercise (CENEX) is an annual, daylong, professional simulation run by Korbel students, for students, at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies.

CENEX aims to:

  • Help students get hands-on experience with the complexity of managing international crises—in particular, managing the flow of information in and out of their teams.
  • Complement students’ coursework in international studies with an opportunity to apply theories to a true-to-life scenario.
  • Provide students practice in coming up with creative solutions to managing crises.

Testimonials:

“Last year's CENEX showed me the value and importance of clear group communication when working in a crisis situation.”
—Matthew Brummond, MA candidate

"CENEX helps bridge the gap between what you learned at Korbel and the high-pace environment the real world consists of. Situations can change at the drop of a hat."
—Thomas L., MA candidate

“CENEX 2011 was a fun, educational and professionally beneficial event. As the North Korea team captain, I made decisions through the perspective of the Kim Jong Il regime—certainly a valuable opportunity for a student, and now professional, focused on the Asia Pacific region. CENEX was a unique exercise in teamwork, fast-paced decision-making, and above all, empathy. Without a doubt, I would recommend this experience for all Korbel students.”                          —Bailey Culp, MA in international security
