Profile

Professor and Head, Colonel, Department of Military and Strategic Studies, US Air Force Academy (1999-present); Adjunct Professor, Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver (2007-present); Associate Professor of Political Science, US Air Force Academy (1991-1995); Assistant Professor, US Air Force Academy (1985-1988). Served in flying operations, military education and headquarters staff positions throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific. Recent deployments have been to Kabul, where he has served as a Faculty Advisor at the National Military Academy of Afghanistan. Author of the book, American Security Agreements Past and Present, and over a dozen articles and chapters on security, strategy and the profession of arms. His forthcoming article is Bringing 'Nature of War' into Irregular Warfare Strategy, Defence Studies Journal (Fall 2011). He is currently writing a book about effects-based strategy and operations.
