Profile

Andrew Mellon Professor, University of Denver; 2008 University Lecturer, University of Denver. Previously taught at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, College of the Holy Cross, Tulane University, Mills College. Visiting Professor at University of Connecticut, Bar-Ilan University, National University (Costa Rica), University of the Republic (Uruguay). Author of more than 50 articles and book chapters, and many books, including International Human Rights (third edition, 2006), Universal Human Rights in Theory and Practice (second edition, 2003), and The Concept of Human Rights (1985).

Research and Expertise

Principal areas of research: theory and practice of human rights; international relations theory, especially political realism and comparative analysis of international societies. Current research areas: the nature of international political structures; international politics in ancient Greece; selected human rights topics (especially sovereignty and the war on terror)
