Alena Sims is a MA candidate in international human rights at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. Her main interests in her studies lie in the efficacy of humanitarian programs geared towards women and children's protection.
From 2009 to 2013, Alena worked as an adult refugee educator at Emily Griffith Technical College in Denver, CO. In this job, she designed and implemented educational program from the ground up in order to better meet the needs of incoming refugees. Since implementation, the program has served over 200 refugees. Alena has also served as a board member of an educational non-profit, in which she utilized my leadership skills to organize an annual conference for over 800 attendees. Currently, Alena is interning with the US State Department within the US Committee for the Africa Union. Eventually, she hopes to work in a position that will allow her to utilize her experience working with refugees in an international humanitarian capacity.
Alena graduated from the University of Colorado in 2005 with a BS in business administration.
