Deborah Nicol

Humanitarian Assistance Student Deborah NicolDeborah Nicol is an MA candidate in international development at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver, with a certificate in Humanitarian Assistance. Her main interest lies in child protection in emergencies.

During her time at the Josef Korbel School, she has participated in two UNICEF internships.  The first took place at UNICEF Philippines, where she assessed community-based child protection networks in areas of armed conflict in order to create a report which would be used for addressing grave child rights violations.  She then interned with the Child Protection Working Group at UNICEF Geneva, where she investigated level 3 emergency response by child protection agencies.  She hopes to ultimately become a child protection specialist on a rapid response team.

Deborah completed her undergraduate studies at Beloit College with a BA in anthropology and music.
