Teri Smith

Humanitarian Assistance Student Teri SmithTeri Smith is a MA candidate in international development and is in the Humanitarian Assistance certificate program.  Her primary interests are in disaster response, particularly sheltering, and the transition from recovery to long-term development.

From 2010 to 2013, Teri worked in Japan in a corporate setting, managing more than 15 employees.  She has volunteered in the Philippines on disaster reconstruction for Typhoon Bopha, and currently works as a Program Development Intern in Disaster Cycle Services at the American Red Cross.  Having lived in Japan for a number of years, Teri speaks Japanese, and is learning French.  In the future, she hopes use her program and management experience to design and implement projects focused on improving the lives for those affected by crisis and vulnerability to climate change.

Teri graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006 with a BA in international affairs, with an emphasis on Asian studies.
