Strong turnout at kickoff Korbel students association meeting

Supporters and friends turned out in force at the kick-off
social event of the Josef Korbel School's Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual and Transgendered Students Association.

A strong turnout of supporters attended the first meeting of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies' Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Students Association at a downtown Denver lounge and bar.

Organized by first-year Josef Korbel School students Jake Marx and Guy Padgett, the event was designed to bring cohesiveness to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community at the Josef  Korbel School and to introduce the group to the larger student body.

More than 40 people attended.

Said group organizer Marx: "I wanted to start this group because there is a lack of outward support and resources for Korbel's GLBT community and our issues. I want something where GLBT students and our heterosexual friends can break down the barriers we all live behind.

"But most of all," Marx continued, "I wanted us all to just have a really good time together. I was truly amazed at the number of people who came in support of Korbel's GLBT community."

The group is planning activities for on- and off-campus settings. Its organizers and members said the group has established itself as a visible, growing presence on and off the Josef Korbel School campus.
