Professor Nader Hashemi is thrilled to announce the establishment of the Center for Middle East Studies
(CMES) at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, the first research institute
of its kind in Colorado.
The Center’s mission is to promote and develop the study and understanding of the societies, political systems, economies, and international relations of the Middle East and the broader Islamic world. It seeks to produce and sponsor academic and policy research based on an interdisciplinary social science agenda leading to the development of new scholarship on the Middle East, as well as to provide a forum for open debate on the contemporary politics of region. A specific focus of this center's activity is an examination of the relationship and compatibility between Islam, Muslim societies and democracy.
