Dr. Peg Sanders, Deputy Director
Peg Sanders is an Adjunct Professor at the Korbel School of International Studies and is the Deputy Director of the new Sié Chéou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy. Her classes include Intelligence and National Security, Strategic Intelligence Problems, The History of American Diplomacy, Ethics and International Security and Foreign Policy and Presidential Leadership.
Prior to coming to the Josef Korbel School, Peg worked for the Central Intelligence Agency for more than 20 years, until 2002, where she held several senior executive positions in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations, including Deputy Chief, European Division; Chief, Resources and Policy; and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director of CIA. She has extensive experience in a wide range of intelligence operations, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, budget and resource management, human resources, and policy and legal guidance. She also served as chief of one of the Agency’s field stations, where she directed all CIA activities in a several-state area of operations and developed a successful outreach program to state and local government, business, and academic leaders.
Peg also built a long-range strategic plan for the Agency’s Directorate of Operations for 1999-2007, working closely with CIA leadership, other Executive Branch agencies, and the Intelligence Oversight Committees in Congress. This strategic plan was designed to increase the size of the operational workforce, strengthen recruitment and training of operations officers, revamp the Agency’s operational budget, and streamline collection operations against the highest priority intelligence topics.
