Center for Sustainable Development and International Peace Merges with the Sié Chéou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy

August 13, 2012—Dean Christopher Hill announced the outcome of a review of research at the Josef Korbel School, which sees the erstwhile Center for Sustainable Development and International Peace (SDIP) at Korbel integrated into the Sié Chéou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy.  Both Centers were housed at the Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver, and it was decided to bring together the Korbel School’s research capacities on international peace and security under a single administrative unit.

Going forward, ongoing SDIP research projects and initiatives will be continued to be led by Professor Timothy Sisk in the “Program on Fragile States” under the Sié Center’s broader aegis.   As well, the work of Assistant Professor Erica Chenoweth on insurgency and terrorism will complete a suite of complementary research activities at the Sié Center.

Both Professor Sisk and Sié Center-Director Deborah Avant are pleased with the merger.  The Sié Center provides an institutional framework and professional support for the research activities and policy outreach programs presently run by the SDIP Center, and the addition of these programs to the existing scholarly initiatives led by Professor Avant and Professor Erica Chenoweth will help to establish the Sié Center as a hub for research and collaborative scholarship on security and diplomacy at the Korbel School and beyond.
