Sié Fellow Tng Ying Hui Publishes Article on Island Dispute between China and Japan

August 31, 2012—Tng Ying Hui, Sié Fellow and graduate student at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, published an interesting article in Al Jazeera Online on the recently reignited row over a group of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea. The islands, called the Diaoyu Islands in China and Senkaku Islands in Japan, have long been claimed by both countries. As Ying Hui  explains in her article, the recent escalation was caused by ultranationalists from Japan and China landing and laying claim to the islands. However, the cause of the dispute is historical and complicated by domestic politics.

In addition to writing for Al Jazeera, Ying Hui has worked for CNBC, Asian Correspondent, and The Online Citizen, the most popular alternative news website in Singapore. At the Korbel School, she is earning her Master's degree in International Studies.
