Degree Programs
Students in the Woodwind Program at the Lamont School of Music may
select the bachelor of music, bachelor of arts, master of music, or master
of arts in music degrees. In conjunction with the University of Denver's
Daniels School of Business, Lamont offers the 3/2 integrated bachelor's/master's
degree program that enables a student to complete both an undergraduate
degree in music and a master of business administration degree in five
years. Musicians interested contemporary music styles may also pursue the
Jazz Studies and Commercial Music Program.
Faculty
Art Bouton, professor of saxophone and woodwind department chair, is first-call saxophonist and woodwind doubler throughout the Rocky Mountain region. He has extensive performance experience on all saxophones, as well as flute, clarinet, bassoon, and the Akai Electronic Wind Instrument. He has performed with the Colorado Symphony, the Denver Chamber Orchestra, Redlands Symphony, and Riverside Opera. Professor Bouton regularly performs in the pit orchestra for traveling Broadway musicals such as Miss Saigon, Hello Dolly, and Guys and Dolls. He recently returned from playing in the national tours of the Phantom of the Opera and Evita. His teachers have included Douglas Masek, Vince Gnojek, and Roger Greenburg. Mr. Bouton previously served on the faculty at the University of Redlands and has a master's degree from the University of Denver.
Chad Cognata, instructor of bassoon, received his bachelor's degree from Carnegie Mellon University. His performance career includes work with the Nashville Symphony and the Aspen Festival Orchestra. He is currently principal bassoonist for the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Cognata has studied with Leonard Sharrow, Sidney Rosenburg, and Harold Smoliar.
Pam Endsley, instructor of flute, has been principal flutst of the Colorado Symphony since 1972. She has also performed principal flute with the Wheeling Symphony, Central City Opera, Colorado Music Festival, and Denver Municipal Band. A student of Bernard Goldberg and Marcel Moyse, she has a bachelor of music from Duquesne University, Pennsylvania.
Lisa Martin, instructor of oboe, is principal oboe of the Greeley Philharmonic and appears frequently with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Ballet, Central City Opera, and Colorado Springs Symphony. She has performed a solo at the New York Strings Seminar in Carnegie Hall. Martin's degrees are from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Northern Colorado.
Abby Raymond, instructor of clarinet, has held the position of second/E-flat/assistant principal clarinet in the Colorado Symphony Orchestra since 2001. A native of upstate New York, clarinetist Abby Raymond has previously been a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Santiago, Chile. Ms. Raymond has participated in the National Repertory Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival, and Round Top Music Festival. She has performed as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and the Texas Festival Orchestra. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music and began graduate studies at Rice University and Boston University, studying with Harold Wright, Stanley Hasty, Thomas Martin, and David Peck. Ms. Raymond is a new addition to the Lamont School of Music.
