Mission and Goals
Statement
The Mission of the Lamont School of Music is:
- To provide professional training of the highest quality in the creation,
interpretation and teaching of music;
- To implement a distinctive curriculum which reflects a global and
integrated conception of music;
- To support an environment for critical thinking about music through
liberal arts education; and
- To create opportunities for the enlightened enjoyment of diverse
musics by the University and the community at large.
This Mission is addressed by the following Goals:
- To pursue excellence as the standard for assessing our creative,
educational and scholarly endeavors;
- To uphold a fundamental commitment to the principle of experiential
and performance-oriented musical training;
- To develop programs which are culturally inclusive and are attractive
to an ever-broadening national and international clientele;
- To support a faculty of practicing musicians, masters of their art,
committed to serve their students not only as teachers but also as role-models
and mentors;
- To build and maintain a diversified student body of sufficient size
to sustain the successful operation of the school’s programs.
To select our students on the basis of their love and commitment to
the art and craft of music, the perceived potential for development
of their talents and abilities, and their level of achievement;
- To design and support activities that reflect the school’s commitment
to community outreach and involvement;
- To promote awareness and respect for our responsibilities as contributing
members of the University of Denver community
