Studying Arabic at the University of Denver

 

 

Why Learn Arabic?

  • The Modern Language Association estimates that Arabic enrollment at U.S. universities increased by 126% between 2002 and 2006.
  • Arabic is the official language in over 20 countries.
  • Those who study Arabic can can enter a variety of career fields: journalism, business, translation, foreign service, finance, education, and many others.
  • The U.S. government - through the National Security Language Initiative - has deemed Arabic a language of strategic importance.

 

About the Program

Elementary Arabic (ARAB 1001, 1002, 1003)

This is the first year of Arabic, taught over of three quarters.

Intermediate Arabic (ARAB 2001, 2002)

This is the second year of Arabic, taught over two quarters.

Conversation and Composition (ARAB 2100)

This is the third quarter of the second year of Arabic. Students receive intensive practice in oral skills and grammar review. Close attention is paid to developing writing skills. All writing, discussion, and reading are based on topics in Arabic and Arabic culture.
