The University of Denver offers this program in cooperation with
the Alliance for Global Education. This new program has two
offerings in Shanghai, one at
Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and the other at Fudan University.
The two programs offer different curricula; however, both require the study
of Chinese. Fudan University is over 100 years old and one of the two or three
most esteemed universities in China. The International Cultural Exchange School
at Fudan offers courses in the Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences. Like
Fudan, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, is one of the group of
universities designated by the Chinese government, as the top tier. The International
School at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics offers courses geared
towards International Business and Economics.
Location
Shanghai is considered the business center of China. Its modern skyscrapers
attest to the recent building boom and the increase of investments to the city
as a whole. The recently built Shanghai Museum boosts large exhibitions which
add to the cultural value of the city. But Shanghai is more known for its shopping.
Part of the Nanjing Road has been made into a walking mall, which is the busiest
shopping center of anywhere in China. As with other cities in China, one can
see both the modern and the old standing next to one another - the bicycle
piled high with boxes parked next to the BMW sports car.
Areas of Study
All levels of Mandarin Chinese, Art History, Business, Economics, History,
International Studies, Literature, and Political Science are some of the areas
of study. Normally students enroll in 8 semester credits (12 quarter hours)
of language and choose three other courses to complete the program. The language
of instruction for all the content courses is English.
