Dobro Slovo is the
national
Slavic
Honor Society, represented at the University of Denver by the Beta Zeta
chapter, one of the original charters of the Society. Dobro
Slovo recognizes achievement in the study of Russian
language, literature, and culture in undergraduate studies at DU. Each
year, usually in the spring, there is a special Dobro Slovo
event: the annual induction ceremony. The event, a serious recognition
of achievement in Slavic Studies, also doubles as a year-end
celebration after months of dedicated studying
of Russian.
During the rest of the year, events are coordinated with the Russian Student Union,
which
is the undergraduate students' Russian organization. These activities,
which occur regularly throughout the year, are interesting,
inexpensive, and fun, whether you're a student of Russian, or a
member of the Russian-speaking community here in Denver, or simply
interested in Russia and things Russian.
Dobro Slovo is one of the oldest American
honor societies dedicated
to the study of a language and a culture. Induction in the society is
an
honor and distinction that many students and faculty wear with
pride. Applications are normally requested in early April. Usually,
every
year, the Beta Zeta chapter also recognizes an Honorary Inductee from
the Denver community for contributions to the study of Slavic languages
and cultures. Please feel free to nominate possible Honorary Inductees
at any time by contacting the Russian Language and Literature Program's
webmaster.
