Michael E. Buchanan

Research Analyst
Michael Buchanan is a graduate of the University of Denver where he received his J.D. and his MBA. While at the University of Denver he served as the Business Editor of the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy, as well as serving as an elected member of the law school's Honor Board. Buchanan received his B.A. in International Relations from American University in Washington, D.C., and he has extensive experience abroad having spent time living and studying in Germany, China and Egypt.
He comes to the Institute after working as an attorney for the Eighth Judicial District Court of Nevada in Las Vegas where he helped run the Senior Judge Department for more than six years. During his tenure in Nevada, Buchanan worked with most of Nevada's Senior District Judges, as well as most of the current Justices of the Nevada Supreme Court. While with the Eighth Judicial District, Buchanan worked on a wide range of cases from complex commercial litigation to criminal matters, including assisting a Senior District Judge conduct a nine month civil jury trial. He also worked directly with one of the largest Drug Court programs in the country, as well as other specialty court programs designed to help alleviate the District's heavy caseload.
Since his return to Colorado, Buchanan has worked for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado, as well as for the litigation department of a medium sized firm in Denver. He is admitted to the bars of Colorado, Nevada and the U.S. Supreme Court.
