Current Projects
Judicial Independence
During the 2006 mid-term elections, punitive proposals that sought to severely limit the authority and independence of the judiciary—including South Dakota’s Jail4Judges and Colorado’s term limits proposal—appeared on ballots in a handful of states. All of these initiatives were defeated, but new versions of some are expected to reappear in 2008. IAALS has assumed a national leadership role to educate Americans about the dangers of these assaults on the judiciary.
Many of our initiatives are concentrated in the area of public education including: 1) Outreach to media to solicit stories on this issue; 2) speeches to national audiences on this topic.
