Minutes of LISA Meetings

April 3, 1997

Barb Tillmans called the meet to order and read the election results. President: Ann Siedl, Vice President: Traci Steckel, Secretary: Debbie Pruitt, Treasurer: Debra Grabosky, Project Manager: Emily Hnath.

Betty Tseng was introduced and explained the results from the fundraising efforts. $5,000 was pledged from the mailing and $10,000 pledged from the phoning. Betty asked for at least 7 volunteers to make follow-up calls (in late April or May) to those who pledged (Lynn suggested having a couple extra volunteers for any exigencies). Having people who were actually in the program would be a personal and meaningful way to show thanks to the donors. It was decided that Tuesday or Thursday night would be the only acceptable nights. Betty explained that there would be an outline available for the calls -- no one would have to ad lib. Betty will get a list to Lynn of what has been purchased with the $2,000 spent so far. Lynn suggested using money to improve serials acquisitions.

Lynn discussed the change in curriculum. Beginning in Fall 1997 there will no longer be the Quantitative Math class (CIS 3217) or Math for Information Technology (TEK 2800).

The candidates for the faculty position are tentatively scheduled to speak April 27, May 11, or May 18 (may be held in Dupont Room) from 10-12 AM. Once the person is hired they will implement new requirements for curriculum.

Lab fees may be established. Suggestions from the group will be taken by Lynn to the University College. Getting the lab on campus and a flat rate of $25-50/year/student were the suggestions to take to the DU commettee. Lynn will find out what additional benefits come with the fee.

Tuition increase for Fall 1997 will be to $235 per credit hour.

Carol Nappholz will be the new advisor (cnapphol@du.edu; 871-4965). There will be an additional person hired to relieve her workload.

XXXXX will continue to be the education representative. If anyone wants to be the recruitor for the school e-mail Carol.

Chris Brown will not put all students on the LISA page with name and email address. If you don't want your name on the list you have to let him know. If anyone discovers an excellent library-related site, let him know and he'll put it on the page. It can be any subject area.

Anyone with ideas for educational forums, seminars, or projects let Emily know.

Communications: listserves are being discussed at DU.

Holding a brunch before the faculty interviews was discussed so we could meet others in the program.

Chris suggested producing content for the Web. Get your research papers ready.

There will be a joint board until Fall. Decided one meeting per quarter, tentatively:

June 19, 1997 6 - 8 PM

September 20, 1997 10AM - 12 PM

January 15, 1998 6 - 8 PM

April 18, 1998 10 AM - 12 PM
