OPENING

Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Martin Garnar.

ACCREDITATION

Deb Grealy discussed moving the academic core of the program to the College of Education in the fall. LISV will continue to maintain our cutting edge technology concentrations. The College of Education may create a Master's of Education Technology program and the LISV department would be able to take advantage of sharing a tenured-track faculty position with them. Tuition will remain the same due to the off-campus status of the College of Education, but there may be a schedule shift in classes as we would now be competing with the rest of DU for classroom space. The certificates would stay under the umbrella of University College.

Deb advised that those currently in the program may be grandparented into the College of Education. This is still to be negotiated. Those that have already graduated will have to wait and see what can be arranged if we gain accreditation.

Under optimal conditions, the accreditation decision may take place 18-24 months from the fall of 2000. Until then, the department will do its best to see that classes continue and that graduates are finding jobs.

TREASURER REPORT

State of the account is approximately $500.

PROGRAMS

A Capstone Seminar will be held Saturday, April 15, 2000, from 1-3 p.m., University Hall, third floor. Deb Grealy, Kim Dority, and Martin Garnar will answer questions on the nuts and bolts of putting together a capstone project. Those students who have gone through the process should contact Martin about participating in the discussion. Also, this will be a chance to sneak a peak at the new capstone handbook.

SCHOLARSHIPS and FUNDRAISING

Tanis Doyle was the recipient of the first ever LISA Book Grant. We would like to be able to give this grant twice a year, but need to come up with fundraising ideas to support it. Some of the more popular fundraising ideas were a trivia tournament at CLA (possibly with a silent auction) and a seminar. Kim Dority said that she would give her Career Alternatives program for free. Roger Greer thought that we should coordinate our efforts with the moving of the program.

We would like to have the first fundraising activity this summer and the second one at CLA in September. Concern was expressed that our goals not be too lofty as fundraising can become all consuming. It was decided that a LISA marketing brochure was needed and Beth Wrenn-Estes and Nicolle Steffen were volunteered to tackle the task.

NEW BUSINESS

The deadline for submitting papers for the summer issue of Colorado Libraries is April 17, 2000. We are looking for 8-10 papers on topics that people in library related work would find interesting. Current students are encouraged to contribute. See the LISA web site for the official call.

Beth Wrenn-Estes will be resigning as editor of the LISA newsletter after the summer issue. Please contact Martin Garnar if you are interested becoming the new editor.

LISA elections will be held in August with campaigning to begin this summer. It is time to start thinking about nominations.

The summer meeting will be a picnic/barbecue. Date and time to be announced.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jill Corrente
