PROGRAMS
The LISA holiday party will be held Friday, December 10, 1999.
PEER RESOURCE BOARD
The Peer Resource Board was introduced. They are a standing committee of LISA. This objective board provides students with a forum through which they can discuss problems and concerns in a confidential manner.
DU ACCREDITATION
Accreditation is still a hot topic. Those attending the meeting had an in depth discussion on what has happened and where we are going with the accreditation issue.
Martin discussed what has been done to address some of the areas in question by the COA. We now have a faculty member in charge of the curriculum committee and a search is being conducted to hire more faculty. We are still considering options such as: moving the program to DU proper, partnering with another accredited school, delivering courses off campus, or shifting away from accreditation and to more non-traditional programs.
The group felt that more electives would be offered as the program continues to evolve.
Marti Cox brought up that we all have taken a risk in enrolling in an unaccredited program and that it is important to get out of it what we put into it. We are seeing that our students are still getting great jobs without the ALA stamp of approval.
The newer students discussed their reasons for joining the program. Among those were liking Colorado and not thinking that accreditation was important in this area.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
