PROGRAMS
A Job Search Strategies seminar will be held October 23, 1999. Dr. Camila Alire, Dean at CSU, will be discussing how to market yourself as an information professional. In January, a follow-up mock-interview session will be held. Attendance at the October session is mandatory to particpate in the January session.
The CLA conference will be held October 7-10, 1999, in Snowmass. Some of the highlights will be presentations on DU's accreditation, netLibrary, and DU student topics. LRS will hold a reception. Emporia will have a large presence at the conference, so it will be important for all of us to attend and support DU.
Kim Dority has offered to coordinate the practicums to ensure consistency within the program. She will organize seminars on practicum preparation and it was suggested that these be conducted twice a year.
EXITING BOARD
Rochelle asked that at the next business meeting the subject of alumi status within the LISA organization be discussed.
Deb Grealy handed out huge DU coffee mugs to the outgoing board members.
Jean Heilig has accepted the job of Director of Research and Information for eGlobal Library.
DU ACCREDITATION
Deb Grealy explained that the accreditation decision appeal (drafted by Dan Calahan, Lynn Silipigni Connaway, and Nancy Allen) had been filed on August 26, 1999. ALA has eight weeks to form a committee to examine the appeal. The committee may recommend to uphold the original decision or give the appeal to the COA for reconsideration. The whole process could take a year or more.
The advisory board is exploring options for the LISV program, such as: moving the core program to DU proper, considering another full time faculty member, or integrating a continuing education program to upgrade current professionals and increase UCOL's income and visibility.
Roger Greer suggested that a delegation from the LISV student body let the university know how important their continued support is in the accreditation appeal process.
On the positive side, it was noted that enrollment is at 118 students (down only 28 from last year) and that there were 8 new students.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
