Welcome Future Pioneer!
Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Denver! We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an exceptional candidate for the Social Justice Living and Learning Community (LLC) here at DU. The Social Justice LLC is for students who are committed to learning about social, political, and economic injustices in order to play an active role in creating a more just world.
DU’s Living and Learning Communities are some of the foremost communities of their kind in the nation, and have proved to be one of the best first-year experiences at the University. At DU, there are five LLCs: Social Justice, Creativity and Entrepreneurship, Environmental Sustainability, International, and Wellness. Each community attracts students with different interest areas and combines academic courses, a residential experience, and co-curricular activities throughout your first year. You are welcome to apply to any of the communities that interest you!
As a member of the Social Justice LLC, you’ll study social justice with students who live with you on the same floor in Johnson-McFarlane Hall. Through the LLC you will have the opportunity to develop relationships with individuals who have shared passions, participate in community engagement projects within the Denver community, and development meaningful connections with LLC faculty, staff, and previous Social Justice LLC students. These former LLC students often continue to pursue their passion for creating change by becoming campus leaders, doing social justice work when they study abroad, and working for community organizations devoted to making meaningful social change.
In the classroom, you’ll explore different facets of the philosophy of social justice and the history of social justice movements, while you consider how to apply these lessons in the struggle for social justice today. As a community, we will go on two off-campus retreats, attend family dinners with activists in the Denver community, and participate in various events both on- and off-campus. At the end of the year, you’ll showcase your work at our annual Social Justice Colloquium, where you’ll interact with faculty, other students, and local activists committed to creating a more just world. And it all comes at no additional cost to you!
